Linked: Watch Gary Kipp Explain the Relationship Between the New Teacher & Principal Evaluation Criteria

Today is day three of four for the first Criteria & Framework Feedback Specialists training sessions. While Gary Kipp, Executive Director of AWSP, couldn’t be present on day one of the training (something about running some large conference in Spokane), we were fortunate to be able to channel his knowledge, wisdom, input, and humor via video. Watch Gary talk about the history and background of evaluation reform in our state, the beginnings of using frameworks in education, and the links between the new teacher and principal evaluation criteria.

The AWSP Leadership Framework, Now Available with Rubrics

AWSP s Leadership FrameworkAWSP’s “The Leadership Framework: The Eight New Principal Evaluation Criteria” has now been updated to include rubrics, which were developed in partnership the University of Washington. The document, formerly titled “Evaluating Principal Leadership in a Performance-Based School”, provides a tool for our districts as they continue to design and develop their new principal evaluation models. Read the updated AWSP document or find it listed with the rest of the principal evaluation resources we have posted. Updated 8/3/2012.

October 14th Principal Rubric Development Workshop

On October 14th, 2011, TPEP & AWSP brought in Cathy Taylor from the University of Washington to speak to our pilot sites about the dos and don’ts of rubric building. UPDATED: TPEP Regional Implementation Grants (RIG)

As we start the second year of our pilot project, we’re excited to offer a new opportunity for districts to get involved with our Teacher/Principal Evaluation Pilot through Regional Implementation Grants. Each of the nine ESDs will receive $100,000 (ESD 121 will receive $200,000 due to their size and the size of many of their districts) from OSPI to administer the grants and assist our agency with implementation efforts. We know lots of districts are anxious to improve their evaluation systems and are ready to get started ahead of the 2013-14 timeframe. Our goal is to get one third of the state’s 295 districts involved in the new evaluation system, either as one of our original pilot sites or as part of the Regional Implementation Grants.

The application will be a two step process, the first of which is a letter of interest due by 4:00 pm on August 26th. For more information about the grants and application instructions, please check out the links below.

Update: We will now accept letters of interest until 4:00 pm on September 2nd.
